Ω The Sanctity of Life
Ɵ The Profanity of Life

01/26/2019
On January 22, of this year Andrew Cuomo, the Democratic governor of the State of New York, signed into law S2796 that protects the state from a potential reversal of Roe v. Wade by the U.S. Supreme Court.

Hiding behind the euphemistic title of the Reproductive Health Act the law allows late term abortions up to the moment of birth. According to the NY State Senate website, a new Public Health Law is established, allowing “an abortion to be performed by a licensed, certified, or authorized practitioner within 24 weeks from the commencement of pregnancy, or there is an absence of fetal viability, or at any time when necessary to protect a patient's life or health.” But what constitutes the mother’s health? If the mother’s mental health is threatened by the child actually surviving the assault against its life and actually being born alive -- might the law allow the newborn to be left to die?

In the words of the great American Thomas Paine, "These are the times which try men's souls". Now it is the soul of our Nation which is being tried.

In the forty-six years since Roe v. Wade the issue which has most visibly marked the difference between the Republican and Democratic Parties has been abortion. The culture of death promoted by extreme activists of the liberal left in this country could never have produced the legalization of infanticide had not the Democrat party made abortion a part of their platform throughout those decades and had not made being pro-abortion a litmus test for every election and for every judicial appointment.

The Republican Party, I am proud to say, has for those same forty odd years been the party of Life. Against all efforts of the media, the pundits, Hollywood leftists, and even some moderate Republicans, we have kept the Sanctity of Life front and center in our platforms, in our stated principles and in our Statement of Core Values which was most recently reaffirmed by vote of the CCRCC in December just past.

It is an embarrassment to the GOP when the occasional Republican elected to office fails to fully support the sanctity of life with votes to provide taxpayer funding for institutions which perform abortions into the third trimester. On the Democrat side of the aisle such votes are often deemed heroic.

For nearly five decades the argument has been made that abortion of a live human being in the womb is the taking of a human life, an innocent human life, -- the life of a Baby.

Those defending the right to life have argued that the first step taken to make abortion legal in the first and second trimesters of pregnancy (in 1970 in the State of Washington) would lead to the eventual legalization of infanticide in the full meaning of that word. The deniers of life denied that truth. Now, I find it difficult to say, that is what has happened.

The Democrat Party has for all those decades vehemently argued that what they were supporting was not the killing of human babies. How can this still be denied with passage of Democratic N.Y. State Senator Liz Krueger’s bill?

Good people struggle to find words to express their sense of the moral tragedy that state sanctioned killing of babies “at any time when necessary to protect a mother’s health.” Could the mother’s mental health not be “threatened” even on the day that the baby was to be born?. We sense but we cannot adequately describe the cultural calamity it represents.

Where words fail us, our energy will not. Nor will our resolve within the Republican party fail us to right the wrongs that are being done to the most vulnerable among us. There are those tiny children who have no voice of their own, except they be given a voice by those who value the sanctity of life. In politics, that is the Republican Party.

In response to this latest assault against innocent life by the Democrat Party, I will call on the Clark County Republican Party to strengthen our resolve to protect the right to life of every innocent human regardless of age or infirmity. Working with every other county, the state and the national Republican Parties we will make it known that America will not accept infanticide under the false banner of "freedom of choice."

May God grant mercy to our Nation as we work to fulfill our political pledge to the protection of Life, Liberty, and Justice for All.

Sincerely yours,
Earl Bowerman, Chair
Clark County Republican Party
